Golf

In a region populated by excellent golf courses, South Muskoka Curling & Golf Club is known for exceptional golf with great value. We offer that unique combination of course quality and moderate price that prompted the Globe and Mail to rank us among Canada’s under-appreciated gems, one of its national “best for less” in 2007. And in 2010 Ontario Golf Magazine rated South Muskoka as its “Best Bang for the Buck” in Central Ontario, 5th in the entire province.

Guest of Member rates apply throughout our pricing model.  Guests who are accompanied by a member will receive a 10% off their green fee.

Guests of members may play 9-hole rounds anytime. If not with a member, 9-hole rounds are generally only available in the first 90 minutes of each day, and after noon. If you have any questions please call the Pro Shop at (705) 645-4221 ext 1. Power carts are available – $10.62 per guest rider per 9-holes, plus taxes. Walkers are always welcome, but we usually recommend that first time players use a cart for the back-nine.

For membership prices, please see our membership section.

The vision of South Muskoka Curling & Golf Club’s Junior Program is to be the best junior golf instructional program in Muskoka, along with being recognized by national programs across the country.

This is based upon knowing that the early development of golf are skills juniors will have for life. South Muskoka is driven and focused on its future, and that comes from continuous improvement to our programs.

Mission Statement & Values

The Mission of South Muskoka Junior Golf Program is to provide excellent instruction in golf and to develop and promote friendships and help foster a lifelong love of the game.

Further to our mission:

  • To support, nurture, inspire and challenge each junior to embrace sportsmanship
  • To provide a safe, relaxing and fun environment
  • To provide quality and caring instructors and volunteers who will, inspire and guide each junior to maximize his/her potential

South Muskoka not only takes great pride in it’s commitment to the growth and development of our juniors, but it is our hope that young people’s participation in the junior program will provide them with the opportunity of forming new acquaintances and lasting friendships.

Our program is geared towards learning different aspects of the game, yet skill improvement, even with its obvious values, should not be the only objective in our programs. There are goals of greater value than low numbers on a scorecard that can come through a youngster’s golf experience. Providing our juniors with these programs can contribute to values while the participants are having fun, being creative, expressing imagination and improving their self-esteem.

It is the recognition of these extra special goals, and the effort expended toward achieving them, that transforms junior golf activity into a successful Junior Golf Program. South Muskoka recognizes that our future in golf must come from our youth. The Board of Directors constitutes the major force in promoting junior golf here at South Muskoka. Our program has exciting potential for personal growth and learning.

Junior Program

South Muskoka is currently entering its 47th year of Junior Golf Programs. It is our objective to provide each junior the skill set, not just in golf, but in their development of social skills, proper attitudes, courtesy and sportsmanship.

Every Monday we will offer our Junior Night from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Once a month, starting in June we will be offering a junior BBQ sponsored by Jen & Alex Nelson to all participants as our way of thanking you for your commitment to South.

18 & Under Junior Programs Registration

At South Muskoka, developing players and programs is not enough—the programs should have the right motives. It is our goal to provide your child with an understanding of golf’s fundamentals, its etiquette and, of course, the pure enjoyment of the game that will last a lifetime in a friendly rewarding atmosphere. Our junior golf program has the potential to do a great deal more with our juniors than improve their golfing skills. The game of golf has exciting potential for personal growth and learning.

The backdrop for our junior golf program is the return of the Future Links driven by Acura program, which is Canada’s national junior golf development series. South is very excited to have partnered with this nationally recognized program. This national junior golf focused initiative is based on the collective efforts of the Canadian PGA, RCGA and Sport Canada with the purpose of delivering an enjoyable and educational golf program for junior players, parents and golf instructors. The program consists of multi-level instruction and provides clinics, camps, support materials and special programs to raise awareness of junior golf and addresses the issues of accessibility and affordability. It is our objective that each junior will have the opportunity to participate in this program that is specifically designed for them. The Future Links driven by Acura program is Canada’s only recognized junior development program and has fostered greater cooperation between golf’s governing bodies to promote the growth of the game from a grass roots level. We encourage each parent to visit their website at www.future-links.org.

If you are a junior interested in developing your golf game and enjoy having fun, South Muskoka in partnership with Future Links driven by Acura awaits your arrival.

Each participant will learn the different aspects of the golf swing and all clinics will take place on the putting green, driving range and on-course. Each child will learn all the fundamentals which include body, stance, posture, alignment, ball position, short irons, long game, chipping, putting, scoring, rules, safety and etiquette.

The positive experiences suggested above are objectives that do not happen automatically when a youngster picks up a club and tours the course a few times. The claims that are made about golf, or any other sport, in respect to character development are not guaranteed. We believe that positive results are a product of purposeful effort, and by using our Future Links Program and the certified instructors involved, we can provide each junior the highest quality of personal instruction.

The Future of South

A great deal of thought has been put into our junior programs commencing this season. Although content may change, our primary goal remains the same; and that is to promote enjoyment and interaction through new pursuits.

Continuing our strong relationships and partnerships with the Royal Canadian Golf Association and the Golf Association of Ontario, the success behind these programs would not exist. With this continued affiliation, our junior programs provide comprehensive and systematic approaches to fundamentals, skill improvement and personal development. Through the development of our professional coaching influence, combined with effective practice and of course fun, which is paramount in this process, our programs will become extremely successful and yield results.

Participating juniors will experience tremendous growth, which in turn prepares them to be the most outstanding people possible.

There is nothing more rewarding than watching a juniors development and their commitment to get better.

We encourage you to come out and give South Muskoka Junior programs a go!  You won’t regret it.

Opportunities for our Junior Members

The Junior committee has been working very diligently over the winter months to create many benefits to the Club and its junior members. We have garnered new opportunities for each junior member to enjoy this season. We outline the following benefits and we encourage you to use these membership incentives:

  • Junior “Road Trips”—our first “road trip” will be determined. We will work with a golf course that can offer us great value to come and visit them this season. Please watch your email and correspondence, as we will travel to another facility for hot dogs, golf and a lot fun! We are anticipating one “junior road trip” during the summer months. Dates will be determined, but look for material on the Junior bulletin board and check your emails
  • Junior/Senior Tournament – Sponsored by Tim Hortons – Monday, August 3rd
    • 9 Hole Alternate Shot Format
  • Junior “in-house” Tournaments for our 7 – 18 year olds
  • Price Reductions at other Clubs—We are working on developing a junior member benefit at local golf facilities that offer reduced rates exclusive for our Junior Members:
    • The Rock Golf Club has offered 50% off the rack rate to play after 2:00 p.m.
    • Golf at Cleveland’s House Resort where “South Muskoka Juniors” play all day for $10.00

Junior Round Incentive Plan

A key element to the program is our Junior Rounds Incentive Program. The junior committee is creating a program to promote our junior members to play GOLF! Special scorecards have been developed to track your successes and milestones on the golf course. We encourage all our Juniors to play, as the incentive program has been categorized in 10, 20 and 30 round increments. Once each level is completed, each junior will be recognized for their accomplishments. Please see the Pro Shop for more details.

The Pros

Like many golf professionals, Mark started playing golf at the early age of 13. He started golfing in the summer of 1993 taking a break from his true passion of soccer. He bought a membership at the local club and has never looked back! Mark started working at Ridgetown Golf & Curling Club in the spring of 1996. He received a golf scholarship to Cleveland State University. As his passion for the game grew, he turned professional shortly thereafter and played on a variety of mini tours after his decision to leave CSU. As the Assistant Professional at Windermere Golf and Country Club for three years, he was promoted to Head Professional in 2004. This is when he turned his sights to the management side of the business. Mark became the Co-General Manager in 2008. Mark is currently going into his fifth season at South Muskoka.
