March Updates
Good afternoon,
I hope this message finds you well. After a winter to remember, it looks like warmer temperatures are finally on the horizon. It’s hard to believe at this time last year we were pulling off green tarps and cleaning up brush around the course.
The curling season has two more weeks of regular league play, with Club Championships taking place March 25 – 29. As always, we’ll be hosting an end-of-year party for curlers following Club C finals on Saturday, March 29. Please watch your inbox for Championship week scheduling and ticket information this week.
Hours of Operation
March 10 – 23
Welcome Errol!
The Club’s new General Manager Errol Smith started last week. Errol is excited to join the team at South Muskoka and looks forward to connecting with membership over the coming weeks.
As a reminder, as part of the Club’s restructuring, Adam Frederick has moved into the position of Director Golf & Curling, and will be responsible for leading operations in these two key areas. Errol is responsible for overall club management and administration, and can be reached at esmith@southmuskoka.com or 705-645-4221 x3.
Please join us in welcoming Errol to the team!
62nd Mixed MLA Bonspiel Great Success
South Muskoka welcomed 128 players in early February for the Mixed MLA Bonspiel. Participants played across Muskoka at Port Carling Curling Club, Gravenhurst Curling Club, and South Muskoka, concluding with a dinner and dance at our Club.
This was our second consecutive year of sold-out attendance, with several teams travelling from across Ontario to participate. A big thank you to our longtime supporter Muskoka Lakes Association, and new event sponsor RVN Building & Landscaping, for their sponsorship of the event, as well as our fellow local clubs for helping us host!
The Mixed MLA Bonspiel is a points ‘spiel with 4 pools of 8 teams. Please join us in congratulating the following champions:
- Pool C & Overall Champions: Team Stone
- Pool A Champions: Team Moore
- Pool B Champions: Team King
- Pool D Champions: Team Sabourin
Men’s Muskoka Lakes Bonspiel
Please join us in congratulating the following champions from our Men’s Muskoka Lakes Bonspiel, which took place February 21 & 22.
- A Flight: Team Wright
- B Flight: Team Clemens
- C Flight: Team Peters
A big thank you to Lawrence Cutting of Cutting Bros Inc. for his sponsorship of the event.
Ladies’ Spring Fling Bonspiel
Our annual Spring Fling bonspiel took place March 1 this year, with another sold-out field of 16 teams. This year’s theme was Kentucky Derby—and once again, our ladies’ effort to dress and impress did not disappoint.
We are pleased to have raised $1,300 in support of Out of the Cold, and wish to thank our event sponsor Charton Hobbs (Rae Anne Cude) for supporting our event.
Congratulations to this year’s champions: Team Dubeau!
Junior Curling Wraps (Sort of!)
The Club’s junior curling program continues to grow and evolve thanks to the support of staff and volunteers. In addition to our in-house programming, we have partnered with several local elementary and high schools to introduce local youth to the game.
Most recently, we hosted over 120 students from Bracebridge Public School, and will be welcoming a similar number of students throughout March from both McCauley and MMO.
A big thank you to our volunteers—especially Curling Committee Chair Steve Post, Nan Cleator, Tina Girard, John Arrigo, and John Cameron—for their support.
Golf Season
Golf season is just around the corner, and we are excited to welcome members and guests back for another season. Member renewals were completed last week, and I’ll be reaching out to individuals on the waitlist shortly to welcome new players to our Club.
If you are on the waitlist, please be advised that we will be in touch as soon as possible to advise your status.
For returning members, please watch your inbox in the coming weeks for league registration, junior programming, event schedule, and more.
Thank you for a wonderful curling season to date, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back for a great summer as well.
